Ukraine has been announced as the winner of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, following a spirited event in Turin, Italy.
Kalush Orchestra wowed the arena crowd and viewers at home with their performance of “Stefania.”
The 2021 Grand Final took place on Saturday May 14 in Turin, Italy, the host country, after Italian rock band Måneskin won the 2021 competition.
Kalush Orchestra edged out other crowd favorites including Briton Sam Ryder, Spanish actor Chanel and Sweden’s Cornelia Jakobs to take home the top prize.
Ryder wowed the jury and topped the scoreboard after the jury votes were tallied, but his performance of “Space Man” ultimately failed to land the top prize once the audience votes were tallied.
The United Kingdom came second overall, followed by Spain and Sweden.
It was an eventful night with Norwegian act Subwoofer taking viewers by surprise with a “wacky” performance of their track “Give That Wolf a Banana”.
The band performed the song while wearing yellow wolf masks that conceal their identity.
Viewers praised Subwoofer for sticking to the competition’s typical exuberance and weirdness.
“Norway fully and completely understood the mission. Those countries that send artists with ballads clearly don’t,” one viewer wrote.
Elsewhere, former Eurovision winner Maneskin returned to the competition to perform their new track ‘Supermodel’.
The band’s lead singer, Damiano David, has delighted viewers after joking about last year’s ‘cocaine’ controversy.
