McMahon MP Chris Bowen had a simple message for the community after being re-elected for the seventh time on Saturday: “Thank you”.
With more than 65% of the votes counted, Mr Bowen won 59.9% of the vote on a two-party preferential basis with a 3.2% swing in his favour. Liberal candidate Vivek Singha won 40.1% of the vote.
“To our community, thank you. Thank you for your strong vote of support and confidence,” he said.
“Thank you for the swing at me. Thanks to our wonderful campaign team for the wonderful effort.
“It’s a new day for Australia, with a lot of work to do and it starts today. But first I just wanted to say a simple thank you. We won’t let you down.”
In the first preference votes, Mr. Bowen obtained 48.6%, Mr. Singha 27.0%, Marie Saliba (United Australia Party) 9.4% and Astrid O’Neill (Greens) 5.5%. McMahon’s electorate includes the Fairfield suburbs of Canley Vale, Fairfield, Fairfield West, Old Guildford, Smithfield, Wetherill Park and Yennora.
