Police issue new update after machete brawls break out in Birmingham

Police are linking a series of fights in which thugs were seen beating each other with machetes and bats. Footage was widely circulated on social media on Sunday (March 13) showing masked youths, all dressed in black, attacking a parked car around 2.20pm in Willows Road in Balsall Heath.

The assailants fled the scene in a white Ford Fiesta. It has now emerged that just 25 minutes later, two other pockets of violence broke out on Brighton Road and Woodstock Road in neighboring Moseley.

Extensive searches have been carried out of the area but no weapons have been found. No one has reported themselves as injured. West Midlands Police are linking the incidents and are appealing to anyone with information to contact them.

A force spokeswoman said: “We’re investigating several reports of disorder in Balsall Heath yesterday afternoon (13 March). A group of men were seen attacking a parked car with weapons on Willows Road, Balsall Heath around 2.20pm. Some of the men left in a white Ford Fiesta.

“Further disorder was reported on Brighton Road and Woodstock Road around 2.45pm, where men were seen fighting. The incidents are believed to be linked.

“No-one has come forward with injuries and our officers carried out extensive searches of the areas involved, however no weapons were found and the men had dispersed.

“We are aware of videos circulating on social media of these incidents, which do look alarming. We want to reassure local residents that we are working harder than ever to establish the full circumstances of the incidents and trace the individuals involved.”
