The Queen’s birthday will be celebrated with a six-minute flypast of over 70 aircraft as part of this year’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Dozens of Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force planes will fly over Buckingham Palace on Thursday June 2, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) has announced.

The Queen is expected to watch the flypast from the palace balcony with other members of the Royal Family.

The monarch limited the Balcony Trooping The Color appearance to working members of her family, with the Duke of York and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex absent.

Although they won’t be on the balcony, Harry, Meghan and their children will be attending the celebrations, but it’s unclear which elements of the Four Day Jubilee weekend they might make an appearance at.

The Ministry of Defense said more than 70 planes, including Red Arrows and planes used by the British armed forces in operations around the world, would take part in the flypast.

It will take six minutes to fly over the crowds and is expected to include more than three times the number of planes that took part in the Queen’s last birthday flypast in central London in 2019.

Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said: “I am proud that the armed forces are leading the nation in celebration with such a spectacular spectacle.

“Throughout the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, we will all benefit from the expertise, skill and talent of our Armed Forces as we celebrate 70 years of Her Majesty’s reign.”
