“It is very unstable,” he said.
“There are some people unaccounted for and that’s yet to be determined as the morning unfolds. Being a boarding house we are not too sure who was home, who wasn’t home. That will be part of the investigations through today.”
In a statement, NSW Police said they were investigating the fire, which is now a crime scene.
“Officers from Inner West Police Area Command have begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the blaze and are appealing to anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers,” the statement read.
A witness told Nine News they heard an explosion in the middle of the night.
“It looked more than just a normal house burning. It was like gas or something like that. It kept burning like crazy,” they said.
