Oldham fire: Dozens of firefighters battle Barry Street Tile Shop blaze – latest updates

More than 50 firefighters are battling a large fire at a commercial building on Barry Street in Oldham. The fire is believed to have started around 4am on Saturday May 7.

Videos show that the fire is at The Tile Shop, a tile and bathroom warehouse. The outbreak was reported on social media on Facebook and Twitter. A resident who lives nearby said staff were alerted to the fire at the tiling business around 2.45am this morning.

“We didn’t expect this,” she said. “The street has been cordoned off but we are all at home. The fire seems almost out now but the building is destroyed inside.”

Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue said: “Over 50 firefighters are currently responding to a large fire at a commercial building in Barry Street, Oldham. We expect to be here in the morning so please avoid the area while crews work. Local residents are advised to keep doors and windows closed.”
