New tree protection rules proposed for ACT – Saturday Breakfast

Have you ever seen a neighbor chop down a beautiful old tree in their yard?

Or were you sad to see a magnificent structure leave your sight?

Proposed new rules for tree protection in Canberra could transform tree laws.

Transport Canberra and City Services are seeking your feedback on the new Urban Forest Bill 2022, which would repeal and replace the Tree Protection Act 2005.

Samantha Ning is assistant director of tree protection with transportation and municipal services.

ABC Canberra’s Adrienne Francis spoke to Samantha Ning about the proposed new laws and how they could help increase the city’s canopy coverage from 21% currently to 30% by 2045.
