Melbourne is poised to become the new “tech jobs capital” with 190,000 local tech workers.
New data from the Tech Council of Australia has revealed that the sector is much more favorable when it comes to the gender pay gap and is more culturally diverse compared to other industries.
Technology Council of Australia CEO Kate Pounder said the industry was one “that can be a real winner for women who want to work in it”.
“It only has half the gender pay gap of other high-paying industries; it has the highest flexible working rates of any industry,” she told Sky News Australia.
“It also creates really interesting jobs that allow people to come to work and solve interesting problems.
“It’s a great opportunity for women at all levels.”
Ms Pounder said demand for jobs in the tech industry had been “turbocharged” during the pandemic as businesses went digital during lockdowns.
“It has seen – in the first year of the pandemic alone – 65,000 new tech jobs created.”
