The WECHS veterinary clinic, which opened in 2011, offers increased access to the procedure that sterilizes animals, helping to prevent the birth of hundreds of unwanted dogs and cats.

The 50,000th animal to undergo the surgery at the clinic, which is open to anyone with no geographic or income limitations, was a female cat named Cheddar.

To celebrate the achievement, the humane society launched a Spay it Forward fundraiser.

Proceeds will help to reduce the number of homeless cats in the community by supporting the society’s community cat package and subsidize feral cat countries and neuters.

Every donation made to the campaign will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $5,000 for the remainder of the month of March, thanks to an anonymous donor.
