A man who was filmed beating his new wife at their wedding has been charged in connection with the attack.
The unnamed groom was filmed violently punching his bride in the head after getting the better of her during a playful game which involved unwrapping sweets.
The horrific incident – which happened in the Surkhandaryo region of Uzbekistan – was shared widely online and even caught the attention of the president’s daughter, Saida Mirziyoyeva, leading police to track down the couple .
The man has since been charged with ‘hooliganism’ but faces only 15 days in prison if convicted, the Daily Mail reported.

It was later revealed that the man had “apologized to the bride and expressed regret for his actions”, according to a committee of the upper house of the Uzbek legislature.
“On the same day, the bride and groom reconciled and are now living together,” the committee added.
As the video began to circulate online, Ms Mirziyoyeva urged people to speak out against incidents of violence against women.
“We must not keep silent about such cases, we must not pretend that they are unique,” she said.
“That’s why we need an education that opens horizons and makes women independent and strong.”

Surprisingly, the incident is not the first time domestic violence has been filmed at an Uzbek wedding.
In 2019, a groom was filmed slapping his new wife after she teased him by making it look like she was going to give him a piece of wedding cake before ripping it out of her mouth.
The man is seen hitting the bride so hard that she falls back into a seat behind her. Much like the most recent video, the incident has sparked outrage online and is calling for the woman to file for divorce.
