Flights due to arrive at Bristol Airport last night (March 12) were forced to land in London last minute. Adverse weather conditions meant four flights due to land in Bristol were diverted to both Gatwick and London Standsted Airport.
Bristol Airport confirmed the four flights were diverted yesterday and said that it was “normal procedure” for adverse weather conditions. They also apologized for any disruption and inconvenience it caused to customers.
Passengers were left disappointed by the late change to their flights meaning many were left stranded in the capital. One anonymous woman was particularly displeased and said: “It was just disgusting to be lied to for hours only to just be stranded with no information or communication.”

The anonymous woman was flying with Easyjet and added: “We were supposed to be landing in Bristol this midnight but were redirected to Gatwick due to weather conditions. We were told there would be coaches and they are there for us when we get off.
“We got off the plane and got our bags to be told there are no coaches. Many people were left stranded in London with no hotel rooms available, and some people were getting taxis for £400 – £500 however we managed to get two coaches back to Bristol for £100 for both of us.
“The flight was at 8.55pm and we got back home 10.30am the next morning. It was very scary if you don’t know London, which we didn’t. No hotels were offered. No rooms available.”

She added: “We got our coach at 3.50am after landing around 2am. There was no support what so ever and they couldn’t even guarantee a refund. I believe Easyjet could have been more honest during this so that we could have prepared for the worst. I won’t be going with them ever again.”
Another woman on Twitter by the name of Susan James was also diverted to Gatwick Airport instead of Bristol. She claimed there were no Easyjet reps on arrival and it was a “disappointing service.”
Easyjet confirmed three of their flights were unable to land in Bristol and were diverted to London Gatwick instead. They added customers would be funded for all reasonable expenses.
A spokesperson for Easyjet said: “Due to adverse weather conditions at Bristol airport yesterday evening, three flights arriving from Geneva, Las Palmas and Paphos were unable to land in Bristol and were required to divert to London Gatwick.
“Our team in London Gatwick did all possible to mitigate the impact of the weather disruption, helping customers to arrange taxis for onward travel and advising any customers who arranged their own transportation that they would be funded for all reasonable expenses.
“Whilst this was outside of our control we would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused as a result of the weather. The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is always our highest priority.”
A spokesperson for Bristol Airport said: “Adverse weather conditions (crosswind) caused disruption to four flights on Saturday, March 12 arriving into Bristol Airport. Normal procedures were followed resulting in the flights due to arrive diverting to both Gatwick and London Stansted airport.
“All other flights remained operating as normal. We apologise for the disruption and inconvenience caused to customers.”
