At least eight dead in New York supermarket attack

At least eight people have been killed in a shooting at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York.

Police said the suspected shooter was in custody after opening fire on shoppers at a Tops Market.

The ministry said in a statement on Twitter: “BPD at the scene of a mass shooting at the Tops in the 1200 block of Jefferson Avenue.

“Several people were hit by gunfire. The shooter is in custody. Motorists and residents are asked to avoid the area.

Governor Kathy Hochul tweeted that she was “closely monitoring the grocery store shooting in Buffalo,” her hometown.

She said state officials have offered assistance to local authorities.

The Erie County Sheriff’s Office said on social media that it has ordered all available personnel to assist Buffalo police.
