A high-end optician has announced that it will open a branch in central York next month.
Acuitis will open at 35 Coney Street on July 11, also offering a hearing center.
The retailer announced the date when York City Council gave planning approval for the new signage and facade. He is in the process of fitting out the premises.
Additionally, the former EE Telephone Shop will be redecorated with black timber detailing in keeping with the historic nature of the Grade 2 listed building.
A council report said: ‘The signage proposals will preserve the character and appearance of the conservation area and host building and will not detract from visual amenities. Public safety is not compromised.
Acuitis is a French company, selling branded designer products, promising affordable quality.
The York store will be run by Leeds-based manager Ed Sweeting, who worked at Gap’s York branch in 1989. The Boston Spa School alumnus has worked in the optical business since the 1990s , mainly in Leeds, with former employers including Vision. Express and Optical Express.
Ed told the press he spent a year bringing Acuitis to York, which will include the latest high-tech equipment for hearing and eye testing. The approved changes will also give the premises a new look, he added.
