A person in England has been diagnosed with monkeypox

A person in England has been diagnosed with monkeypox, the UK Health Safety Agency (UKHSA) has said.

The patient had recently traveled from Nigeria, where he is believed to have contracted the infection, before traveling to the UK, the UKHSA said.

The person is receiving treatment at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust Infectious Diseases Expert Unit, London.

Monkeypox is a rare viral infection that does not spread easily between people, but can spread when a person is in close contact with an infected person.
